FLOYD, Va. — The Kentucky pipeline to FloydFest will continue in 2020, with the festival and promoter Across-the-Way Productions today announcing the debut appearance on the mountain for dynamic Lexington-based rock trio Johnny Conqueroo and the return of Lexington/Louisville-based bluegrass quintet Mama Said String Band.
Each band is coming off busy 2019s that saw each drop new music, with Mama Said releasing their sophomore album Carry the Water in the spring while Johnny Conqueroo spread single releases throughout the year before capping it with the four-song Takin It Easy EP. Both bands also hit the festival circuit hard including stops for both at the Moonshiner’s Ball in Irvine, Ky. along with Mama Said making it to the John Hartford Memorial Festival and Johnny Conqueroo tearing it up at the inaugural Railbird Festival in Lexington.
In addition to the two Kentucky-bred acts being revealed, five other artists were also added to FloydFest 2020~Vision Quest including Acoustic Syndicate, Travers Brothership, Big Daddy Love, L Shape Lot and Stephen Lewis & The Big Band of Fun.
The seven newly-minted festival acts join the previously announced The String Cheese Incident (2 nights), Umphrey’s McGee, Grace Potter, Turkuaz w/ Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew Remain in Light Turns 40, Toots and the Maytals, Leftover Salmon, Cory Wong (of Vulfpeck), Cory Henry & the Funk Apostles, Keller Williams, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Brent Cobb, Molly Tuttle, The Soul Rebels, All Them Witches, Southern Avenue, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Illiterate Light, Keller and The Keels, Doom Flamingo, L.A. Edwards, Consider the Source, Hogslop String Band, The Broadcast, and FloydFest 19~Voyage Home On-the-Rise Competition winners DownTown Abby & The Echoes (winner) and Mason Via & Hot Trail Mix (runner-up).
Central Kentucky music fans have plenty of opportunities to catch FloydFest acts coming up beginning with this Thursday, Jan. 16, when Hogslop String Band and Mama Said String Band perform at The Burl in Lexington followed by Johnny Conqueroo performing at Jarfly Brewing in Somerset, Ky. on Jan. 24 as part of a lineup announcement celebration for the 27th annual Master Musicians Festival. Other FloydFest 2020~Vision Quests acts coming to the area include Brent Cobb and Molly Tuttle, who come to Lexington and The Burl on March 13 and 21, respectively.
