LEXINGTON, Ky. — Elizabeth Cook delivers a haunting performance of “Dharma Gate” from her 2016 album Exodus of Venus in her debut video for The Burl Sessions, out now. Watch the video below.

It can be easy to feel intimidated by an Elizabeth Cook performance. Effortlessly smooth and glittered with an “I am who I am,” taking no sh*t attitude, Cook has turned today’s world of cookie-cutter mainstream country music upside down with her sass and substance, helping lead the charge in the outlaw country renaissance. On this rendition of “Dharma Gate” Cook’s subtle croon elicits chills as the sun shines through The Burl’s iconic stained glass window, casting a glow that paints Cook as a southern belle with a bite.

Originally from Wildwood, Florida, and currently based in Nashville, Cook is a raw and sincere talent that has stood the test of time, making the first of over 400 appearances on The Grand Ole Opry since her debut on the program in 2000. Cook is also a veteran SiriusXM Outlaw Country Radio DJ, hosting her own show, Apron Strings, nationwide for the last 10 years. She is also a favorite of David Letterman and a frequent guest star on Adult Swim’s long-running hit cartoon series “Squidbillies” on Cartoon Network.

About The Burl Sessions:

The Burl Sessions was launched in May 2019 when music producer Duane Lundy approached Cannon Armstrong and Will Harvey, both partners of Lexington-based music venue The Burl, about a video project showcasing the best bands in the region and other notable acts coming through town, later bringing cinematographer John Buckman into the mix in addition to partnering with VisitLex, Lexington’s Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Sessions made its debut with second generation outlaw country songsmith Shooter Jennings and has since featured the likes of Oh Boy Records artist and Western Kentucky native Kelsey Waldon, former Houndmouth vocalist Katie Toupin, and majestic singer of sad songs Justin Wells, among others. Reminiscent of 4AD or NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, these music videos are professionally filmed, recorded, mixed, and released online every Thursday.

Duane Lundy is a Lexington-based producer, sound engineer, and musician best known for his work with artists such as Jim James, Ringo Starr, Vandaveer, Sunday Valley, Ancient Warfare, Joe Pug, Ben Sollee, Miles Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts, and Justin Wells. He owns and operates the Lexington Recording Company and is a partner in WhiteSpace Records.

John Buckman is a cinematographer working primarily in the commercial and non-profit space. Before beginning his journey into video production, A former drummer and DJ, Buckman gets to marry his love of music and moving images through his work on the sessions, with his meticulous eye for lighting and composition helping to elevate the already amazing production work of Lundy, a long-time friend and collaborator.
