PREMIERE: MOJOTHUNDER unveil “You Got Me Like”

By Matt Wickstrom

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Rowdy rock ‘n rollers MOJOTHUNDER have released “You Got Me Like,” the second single from their upcoming EP, due out in early June. Listen below.

“You Got Me Like” marries upbeat, catchy soul with bourbon-soaked rock ‘n roll swagger. The song was written about a girl that has it all – looks, style, smarts, and most importantly, attitude. The song sums up the rock ‘n soul sound the band has cultivated with their new frontman, Sean Sullivan, who the band first revealed as it’s newest member at a Nov. 24, 2018, show at The Burl.

The song was recorded and mixed at Nitrosonic studios by the band’s drummer, Zac Shoopman. Joining Shoopman and new frontman Sullivan in the band are Bryson Willoughby (guitar) Andrew Brockman (bass). According to Shoopman, the song came about from a riff the band had been holding in their bank for a while, which paired with Sullivan’s fresh perspective led to a full-fledged tune within one night.

“When we started the writing process with Sean, we were going through the song bank and we got to this one,” said Shoopman. “He came up with a melody in about 10 minutes that really transformed it from just an idea to a full-blown song.”

MOJOTHUNDER has upcoming shows in Morehead at on Feb. 22 with Sour Cream and Bedford Band at the Rock Taphouse and in Louisville on March 1 at Diamond Pub and Billiards.
