Wick’s Picks: Ep. 43 – 11/5/18 (w/ Big Atomic)

By Matt Wickstrom

(L-R) Matt Wickstrom with Joe Schlaak and Shannon Vetter

LEXINGTON, Ky. — This week Shannon Vetter, do-everything man for Louisville jam/funk/jazz group Big Atomic, and special co-host Joe Schlaak of Restless LEg String Band joined me for Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio.

Following NP Presley & The Ghost of Jesse Garon needing to reschedule their appearance due to unforeseen circumstances, the first hour of the program instead featured a playlist mixed with local artists and others traveling through Lexington in the coming weeks for gigs including Esme Patterson, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Wayne Graham, The Wooks, Joslyn & The Sweet Compression and Driftwood Gypsy, among others.

Vetter joined the program for hour two to preview three tracks — “Better for You,” “Extra Hug Deluxe” and “Sanctimonious Preacher” — along with discussing his musical background and influences, the formation of Big Atomic, songwriting, the recording process, collaboration and much more.

Listen to an archive of the show below.

Join me every Monday from 9-11 a.m. for Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio. For my next show on Nov. 12, I’ll be joined by singer-songwriter Abby Hamilton and indie folk group Wicked Peace. Tune in on the dial at 93.9 FM or online at lexingtoncommunityradio.org.
