LEXINGTON, Ky. – This morning singer-songwriters Brett Horton and Donnie Bowling joined me for Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio.
First I chatted with Brett Horton of Dark Moon Hollow, a young and blossoming progressive bluegrass quintet from right here in Lexington (0:00–1:00:30). A native of Sandy Hook, Horton made his way to Lexington a few years ago after a stint in Morehead and now plays throughout town solo and with Dark Moon Hollow. On the show Horton discusses his musical roots, influences, songwriting, Poppy Mountain and more.
Following Horton was fellow songwriter and good friend Donnie Bowling (1:00:30–1:59:20), who discusses his background in music, returning to songwriting following turmoil and time spent as a traveling nurse, and crawdads.
In addition to music from each of the two guests, songs from Joslyn & The Sweet Compression, Maggie Lander, Driftwood Gypsy, Restless Leg String Band and Blind Corn Liquor Pickers were played throughout the show. Listen to an archive below.
Tune in live to Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio every Monday from 9-11 a.m. on the dial at 93.9 FM and online at lexingtoncommunityradio.org. Next week songwriters Chelsea Nolan, Dann Conn and Jen Tackett join the program on October 8.
