Jr Williams of NewTown

LEXINGTON, Ky. — This week’s episode of Wick’s Picks on Lexington Community Radio featured NewTown and Wayne Graham, two kick ass Kentucky bands celebrating the release of new albums.

First on the program was Junior Williams (0:00–1:06:41), vocalist, banjo and guitar player for NewTown, a diverse bluegrass group out of Lexington. Williams discussed the band’s new album Old World, song selection, Southland Jamboree and much more along with playing a selection of cuts off the album including “Heart of Stone,” “Laura Lee,” “Evangeline,” “Long Hard Road” and “Naomi Wise.”

Lee Owen and Kenny Miles of Wayne Graham

Following Williams were Kenny Miles and Lee Owen of Eastern Kentucky psychedelic honky-tonk outfit Wayne Graham (1:06:41–2:01:28). The two discussed the band’s founding, the brotherly connection between Kenny and drummer Hayden, the recent band additions of Owen on electric guitar and Chris Justice on bass; their new album Joy out September 18 and much more.

Much like with NewTown’s Old World, a small collection of songs from Joy were played from the album as well including “Joy,” “Bloody Montana,” “Two Blade Razor” and “Don Williams.”
