Moontower Music Festival, celebrating its fourth year upcoming in 2017, announced Benjamin Booker, The Record Company, Elise Davis, Warren Byrom & Fabled Canelands and the Debraun Thomas Trio as part of its phase two lineup reveal on Monday afternoon.
Of the five editions two, Warren Byrom & Fabled Canelands and the Debraun Thomas Trio, are Lexington-based. Byrom and company are a lyrically-driven concoction of folk and Americana whereas the Debraun Thomas Trio merges rock, soul, funk and more in what Thomas describes as rock ‘n’ soul.
The Record Company also has ties to the bluegrass, as the southern roots rock band has a collection of upcoming tour dates with Louisville’s My Morning Jacket. Davis too has ties to Kentucky and Lexington specifically, having performed in November at The Burl with River Whyless.
Rounding out the lineup reveal is Benjamin Booker, a songwriter and guitarist based out of New Orleans and possessing a garage rock sound oozing with blues, boogie, soul and punk influences. Booker is set to release “Witness”, a follow up to 2014’s debut, self-titled record on June 2 via ATO Records.
The new artist additions join JJ Grey & Mofro, Cherub, Todd Snider & Great American Taxi, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Tyler Childers and Vita & The Woolf on the lineup after they were announced on March 31 as part of the initial lineup reveal.
Along with the artist reveal, Moontower also announced plans for an official after-party from midnight to 2 a.m. on August 26-27 at The Burl, according to founder and president of Lex Effect, organizers of Moontower. Artists performing and further details for the after-party will be announced during the final lineup reveal on June 12.
Per Query, the University of Kentucky Art Museum will be present at the festival with a special tented art installation. Moontower Music Festival and the museum also recently collaborated for the museum’s “Videos for a Stadium” presentation merging sports and art on April 6 at Commonwealth Stadium.
Moontower Music Festival will be held on August 26 at Masterson Station Park in Lexington, beginning at noon. To purchase tickets, view a list of vendors and more visit www.moontowermusicfestival.com.
